Secret to Achieving Your New Year’s Resolutions
Happy New Year Babes!!! Today I’m sharing my own New Year’s Resolutions and my tips to help you achieve all that you want in this next year.
I love this time of year – that break between Christmas and the New Year. It is a great opportunity to pause and reflect on the year that passed, and give gratitude for all with which we have been blessed. This break is also a fabulous time to get really clear on what we want to happen in the new year.
Even if I don’t achieve my goals this year, I still love the chance to try. I don’t see any of the misses as failures, but lessons to do it that much better the next time.
So, in honor of NYE, I’m sharing my New Year’s Resolutions, and my advice for creating and sticking to yours. I want to encourage you today to look at this time of year as a fresh start, a new beginning.

Katrina’s New Year’s Resolutions
- One thing I’ve realized about myself is that if I’m not learning, I’m dying. I need the mental challenge to keep me sharp. Plus, it makes me feel better in all other areas of my life too. I’d like to be the best trainer that I can for you babes. So, I’d love to pursue another certification.
- While sticking to the Katrina TaTae Fitness Nutrition Plan, I would like to experiment with more international flavors and cuisine! New spices, different cooking techniques, I would love to try more new things with food this year.
- Stay present and focus on what I can control. Later this year, I do know I will be moving #ArmyWifeProblems. However, I don’t know where. It could be overseas, but it could also be back home to WA while my husband deploys. Either way, change is a-coming. So, I just want to focus on being present with those I love, having an adventurous spirit, and accepting that I can’t control everything.
Tips for Creating Your Own New Year’s Resolutions + Sticking to Them!
BREAK IT DOWN
Take a big goal for the year and break it up into smaller steps. Work in reverse. List the steps needed to reach that goal in reverse order. Ask yourself, “How can I make this goal happen? What needs to happen?” Then, put those steps into an action plan. Break those steps down smaller if you have to!
FIND A FORMAT THAT WORKS FOR YOU
Goals can come in a lot of different forms. If you feel stuck, try a problem/solution approach, or a two-column, less/more format. For example, more water, more green veggies, less negative self-talk when I miss a workout.
RUN YOUR RACE
Set goals that YOU care about. Don’t do anything because of someone or something else. That is a sure-fire way to lose interest in a few weeks.
Also, your goal might be achieved in a different way than you expect. It might not happen the way it did for someone you know, or the way that all the ‘experts’ suggest. Be open for surprises and unorthodox ways to achieve your goals.
GET A VISUAL
Remind yourself daily about the desires you have in your heart by creating a visual. It should be a physical reminder of your goal. For example, you could put up pictures around the house to visually remind you of your goal. This keeps the dream fresh in your mind and top of brain everyday. Even if you don’t consciously think about these reminders when you see them, subconsciously you are moving towards that dream.
Write down your goals. Write down your plans and steps to achieve them. Keep these somewhere you will remember them. Read them periodically to keep your vision focused.
BE COMFORTABLE WHEN THINGS DON’T GO AS EXPECTED
Things will come up. Things will not happen on your timetable. But, it is so important to keep believing. Keep working towards that goal even when you don’t see how any of this work is making a difference. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten frustrated because I wasn’t making progress in my workouts. But, I still completed my workouts knowing that I would have a break through. This is why a lot of people don’t reach their goals, they give up right before they see the goal come to pass.
Even if you have a bad break, or you run into a tough situation that sets you back from your goal, don’t give up! If one door closes, it wasn’t your door. There is another door coming, made especially for you – believe it!
BE CONTENT WITH WHERE YOU ARE NOW
This is huge! It’s makes me all warm and fuzzy to dream about the future and how great it will be. But, sometimes I forget to be just as excited about where I am now. Learn to enjoy the season you’re in. You are there for a reason and the sooner you can let go and appreciate the time you are in, the happier you will be – regardless of where your next season takes you. It is a vital key to happiness.
